Nature-Responsive Haven: A Seaside Getaway

Located an hour and a half drive east of Shenzhen, Twin Moon Bay faces growing tourism pressures amid its rapidly expanding population of over twelve million. Strict environmental regulations govern all coastal development, and a narrow hillside site geometry and coastal setback line hinder ocean relationships. Landscape architects were tasked with creating a memorable and low-impact seaside resort experience despite limited beach access.

Guided by site planning principles, the landscape design draws inspiration from regional landscapes, natural lagoons, and rugged cliff-based topography, creating a seamless transition from rainforest to coastal environments. Rather than introducing high-maintenance foreign landscapes, the design emphasizes evolving native gardens that blend with the hillside forest.

Detailed design elements, such as light-hued sculptures and site furniture, reference the ocean's aesthetic, enhancing the coastal ambiance. The project juxtaposes native and man-made landscapes, using bold references to regional landscapes while fostering stewardship among guests and the local community.
