Channel Islands Harbor

Islands at the Harbor: Celebrating Local Heritage

The project focuses on enhancing public landside amenities at the premier boating destination of Channel Islands Harbor, a 310-acre recreational boating facility boasting 2,300 slips. Elements of the project include improvements to the open space system, public walkways, signage, lighting, and drainage for water quality.

A revitalized open space system features a waterfront promenade and a series of themed parks, each with distinct functions and themes. The waterfront promenade, a landscaped linear active space, serves as a focal point for public and visitor activities along the water's edge.

Along the waterfront promenade, a series of parks are created, each themed after different islands, in a framework called "Islands at the Harbor." This approach capitalizes on the Harbor's unique connection with Channel Islands National Park and Marine Sanctuary, as well as Indigenous People's heritage. It creates a cohesive open space system with an integrated design vocabulary, expressing the Harbor's sense of place and providing a unique identity for the Harbor and its businesses.
