Founded in 2003 in San Diego, California, TOPOS is one of the leading practitioners of landscape architecture on the West Coast of the United States. The firm’s work ranges from landscape planning to detailed design, and it carries most of the projects through construction documents and construction administration. In each project, we explore the notion of purity, clarity and intimacy, with focus on space making. Our design focuses on understanding people’s experience, exploring poetic imagery from local culture, to provide unique vitality and new experience to each site, and promote emotional dialogue between people and the place. In each project, the relationship of a client’s desire to the idea of the project is the aspect that we enjoy most: to convince a client who has only a rough idea or has never envisioned the idea, to build artful landscape that ultimately inspires people, producing something that has lasting value, that exposes people to something they’ve never seen before. The main question we always ask is – what is the aesthetic essence in each project and how is it creatively brought to realization? This process results in the exceptional qualities unique to each TOPOS project.
